The professorships are to be filled by the earliest possible starting date for an initial period of three years. Upon successful evaluation, the appointment will be extended for another three years. FAU offers the long-term perspective of a permanent appointment to a W2 or W3 professorship if the requirements of the tenure evaluation are met.
We seek to appoint top early career scholars who will develop outstanding expertise in the field. The professorships are financed with funds from a Federal and State program for supporting young researchers at German universities. All professorships are intended to make significant contributions to the FAU key research priorities. This call for applications addresses outstanding early career scholars with the ambition of developing their own profiles and careers as part of the strategic development of a key priority in cooperation with renowned scholars at FAU ('Open Topic Tenure Track'). The four positions announced in this call for applications will strengthen research and teaching in 'Future Energy Systems'. The successful candidates will be invited to take an active role in the key research priority ‘Future Energy Systems' at FAU, and the interdisciplinary centre Energie Campus Nürnberg (EnCN).
The Faculty of Business, Economics, and Law invites applications for a W1 professorship (assistant professor) in the School of Business, Economics, and Society. The professorship should be anchored in the School’s research focus area of Energy Markets and Energy Systems Analysis and may have an economic and/or business orientation. The professorship is aimed at strengthening the research focus area in the long term, and will ideally create links to one or several other research focus areas at the School. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the degree programmes offered by the School.
The Faculty of Engineering invites applications for a W1 professorship (assistant professor) for Sustainable Energy Supply at the Department of Electrical Engineering. The professorship will focus on renewable power generation, distribution and intelligent use of energy. The research will concentrate on diagnosis and modelling of electrochemical storage systems including their utilisation in energy networks in conjunction with heat and mobility. The successful candidate is expected to make an active contribution to degree programmes dealing with energy technology and to lecture on fundamental topics in the Bachelor’s degree programme.
The Faculty of Engineering invites applications for two W1 professorships (assistant professors) at the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBI). The first professorship (CBI I) is intended to strengthen the research priority in catalytic and electro-catalytic systems and processes for storing energy at the Institute of Chemical Reaction Engineering. We would welcome applications from candidates whose research deals with the fundamentals and technology behind chemical storage of renewable energies and energy-efficient synthesis of chemicals as well as from candidates who have focused on aspects of reaction technology with respect to the field of energy technology.
The second professorship (CBI II) is intended to strengthen the research priority in decentralised energy systems in the field of Energy Process Engineering, addressing in particular the generation of power and heat on the basis of renewable energies and/or the storage thereof. We would welcome applications from candidates whose research focuses on energy conversion technology using biological, thermal, thermo-chemical or electrochemical methods as well as from candidates who have focused more on energy system modelling.
The successful candidate is expected to teach in the degree programme in energy technology and in other degree programmes offered by the department.
Successful candidates demonstrate initial academic achievements and the capacity for independent research at the highest international standards. You have substantial research experience abroad and/or experience in managing research projects and in raising third party funding. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree as well as a passion for education and pertinent teaching experience, including the ability to teach in English, are also prerequisites.
