Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor, W1) for “Interfacial Chemistry” (with tenure track to W2) (m/f/d)

Institute of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology offers the tenure-track position of

Assistant Professor (Juniorprofessor, W1) for “Interfacial Chemistry”
(with tenure track to W2) (m/f/d)

The offer is aimed at junior scientists in the early stages of their career. Applicants are expected to have changed the university after completing their doctorate studies or to have worked scientifically outside Chemnitz University of Technology for at least two years.

Internationally recognized candidates with an expertise in the area of interfacial chemistry are encouraged to apply. Interfaces include internal and external interfaces with at least one solid component. Possible research foci are tailored syntheses or chemical adaption of all kinds of interfaces to control and modulate chemical and physical properties, such as reactivity, electric or ionic conductivity, spin transport or magnetism. In addition to synthesis and modulation of interfaces, characterization of their chemical and physical properties is of particular importance.

Candidates are expected to have a strong track record, the capacity and willingness to attract third-party funding, to support young scientists and to collaborate within the Faculty of Natural Sciences in order to promote joint research proposals. Candidates should also engage in interfaculty research, especially in order to strengthen the core competence “Materials and Intelligent Systems” of Chemnitz University of Technology.

In lecturing, the W1 professorship Interfacial Chemistry with tenure track to W2 is required to contribute and add new highlights to the degree courses B. Sc and M. Sc. Chemistry, B. Sc and M. Sc. Physics and M. Sc. Advanced Functional Materials. Additional commitment in the areas of basic education in natural sciences and in interdisciplinary degree courses is expected as well as the capacity and willingness to present courses in English. Likewise, active participation in university self-government and activities and experience in scientific transfer are expected.

Furthermore, international activities and experience in the areas of teaching, research, scientific transfer, specific teaching qualification certificates and the capacity and willingness to engage in further education and public relations and to use new methods of teaching and learning are welcome.
