Junior Professor (W1, tenure track W2)

This is a junior professorship appointment with a tenure track career path towards a permanent W2 professorship. The position is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German federal and state governments. This call for applications is therefore particularly targeted at early career researchers. We are seeking qualified applicants for teaching and research and medical care in the area of Digital Pathology. The starting date is as soon as possible. Applicants should work on issues related to the digitization of pathology in research and diagnostics. A particular focus is on the development, testing and validation of AI-based approaches and their sustainable implementation for use in preclinical and clinical research and diagnostics in pathology. They have a methodological and clinical background in pathology and biomedical research, as well as a methodological background in the application and development of machine and deep learning approaches. They are distinguished by high-level publications in both pathology and biomedical and medical informatics journals.

The future position holder is expected to be highly engaged in initiatives of the Medical Faculty of RWTH Aachen University, as well as to attract external third-party funding. In addition to working in clinical care in pathology, the candidate is also expected to teach courses in pathology in the new medical student’s curriculum of the Medical Faculty (“Modell-studiengang Medizin Aachen”), as well as in interdisciplinary study courses, such as “Biomedical Engineering” or “Medical Data Science”.

Interdisciplinary scientific co-operation with other departments and clinics of the Medical School, with the research areas of the RWTH Aachen University including SFB TRR 219, SFB 1382, KFO 344, KFO 5011, IRTG 2150, GRK 2375, GRK 2415, GRK 2610, PAK 961, CIOABCD, JARA, IZKF AACHEN, with the Institute of Biomedical Technologies (IBMT) and with other technical disciplines are encouraged.

You should have a completed university degree and a special aptitude for scientific work. Ability in and commitment to teaching are essential. The application should include supporting documents regarding success in teaching and a teaching portfolio. Fluent German is necessary. Due to the clinical work in pathology, a license to practice medicine in Germany is required. An ongoing medical training in pathology and experience in the field of nephropathology are expected.
