The Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Erfurt intends to appoint to the following professorship at the earliest possible date:

Junior Professorship (W1) in Communication Science with a focus on interpersonal communication in the context of digitalization with a tenure track option for W3

This tenure track professorship is funded by the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programme.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will represent the entire field of Communication in teaching and research.

The candidate will focus particularly on interpersonal communication in the context of the digitalization and on media change with a research focus on communicators and journalism. The duties of this professorship comprise teaching of qualitative research methodology.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the following programmes: Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Master of Arts in Children’s and Youth Media Studies, Master of Arts in Health Communication, Master of Arts in Global Communication (taught in English), and the ‘Communication and Digital Media’ programme at the Ph.D. level. The position should complement and enhance the academic profile of the Department of Communication (www.uni-erfurt.de/kommunikationswissenschaft).

Requirements
In addition to the general conditions under public-sector employment law, applicants are to demonstrate evidence of the employment requirements set forth in Section 89 Subsection 2 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (Thüringer Hochschulgesetz, ThürHG).

The successful candidate will have relevant qualifications in the field of communication, a track record of research on interpersonal communication in the context of digitalization, and expertise in qualitative methods; additional academic skills in the relevant field are desirable.

The candidate is expected to have a track record of successful international publication and nati­onal and international visibility in the field. Willingness to prepare grant projects is essential.

Proficiency in German (reading and listening skills at CEFR level B2, writing and speaking skills at level B1) are required or need to be acquired within 2 years.

Experience in academic self-management and the organisation of degree programmes is desirable.

The appointment as civil servant is initially made with limited tenure. After a successful interim evaluation an extension will be provided (Section 89.6 Sentence 2 ThürHG). The appointment to a W3 professorship in a civil service position with unlimited tenure or a permanent employment contract is planned after a successful final evaluation within the framework of the appointment and career concept of the University of Erfurt ("Erfurt Career Track") in accordance with Section 85.1 Sentence 4 № 4 ThürHG. Please note Section 89.3 ThürHG. Insofar as employment as research assistant or in a comparable employment contract took place in a German university or research institution before or in pursuit of the doctoral degree, the total length of time spent working on a doctoral thesis and as a research assistant (or comparable) should not exceed six years before her/his appointment as junior professor. An exception is made in cases where an employment period was extended for parental leave, the applicant worked on a part-time basis due to childcare duties, or in particular cases that are specifically justified and properly documented.
