Junior Professorship (W1) in Didactics of Physics (with tenure track to W2)

In the framework of the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and Federal States, the Faculty of Physics seeks to fill the

Junior Professorship (W1) in Didactics of Physics
(with tenure track to W2)

from 1 April 2020. The appointment is initially limited to a four-year contract as a temporary public official. If the interim evaluation is positive, the employment contract will be extended to a total of six years. After five years at the latest, a tenure evaluation will be carried out by a TU Dresden evaluation commission. Following a positive evaluation, a permanent Chair (W2) of Didactics of Physics will be granted.

During the temporary appointment, the candidate has to prove that she or he is able to completely fulfil the teaching obligations in didactics of physics as well as the corresponding research tasks. Evaluation criteria mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted will form the basis of the evaluation procedure. Essential elements of the evaluations will include the scientific achievements (independent research profile, publications, participation in scientific networks, third-party-funded projects) and the development of innovative concepts in physics-didactic education with a positively evaluated teaching performance.

The successful candidate shall represent the field of physics didactics in education and research. She or he will work in close cooperation with the existing Chair of Didactics of Physics, which is responsible for the physics-didactic parts of the education of secondary-school teachers and, in close collaboration with the Centre for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB), takes part in the continuing training of physics teachers and of those entering school service as career changers. The successful candidate is expected to develop her or his own focus in a current field of physics education research and to engage in the education of physics teachers and its advancement. The duties also include participation in academic selfadministration. Mandatory teaching assignment amounts to 4 semester hours per week. All courses must be given in German.

We are looking for a candidate with a background in a topical field of physics didactics, as documented by an outstanding doctorate, publications, practical experience from school, as well as pedagogic aptitude. The candidate must be willing and able to acquire third-party-funded projects, to supervise doctoral students and to work in interdisciplinary collaborations. Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG). According to § 58 (3) SächsHSFG, to be appointed professors in a didactics discipline should have three years of practical experience as school teachers.
