Junior Professorship (W1) in Media and Communication / Digital Media and Respective Empirical Research Methods
(with tenure track to W3)

to be filled as soon as possible.

The appointment is initially limited to a four year contract. If the interim evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended to a total of six years. In the fifth year, a tenure evaluation will be carried out by a TU Dresden evaluation commission. Following a positive evaluation, a permanent Chair (W3) of Media and Communication / Digital Media and Respective Empirical Research Methods will be granted without a renewed selection process.

Evaluation criteria mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted will form the basis of the evaluation procedures. Essential elements of the evaluations will be publishing in international peer-reviewed journals, acquiring external funding, promoting knowledge transfer, establishing international and interdisciplinary cooperations, also with STEM disciplines, and positively evaluated teaching in German and English language.

The applicant should demonstrate during the tenure-track period that she/he broadly covers the field of media and communication in the BA programme “Media Research, Media Practice”, in the MA programme “Applied Media Research”, and in research. She/he should also show that she/he has mastered the empirical research methods of the field. The applicant focuses on theoretically and empirically analyzing current and future forms of public communication, on analyzing digital media as driver and catalyst of social change, as well as on applying and developing empirical research methods of public communication and digital media. Respective research and teaching interests include the content and usage of search engines, online encyclopedias, discussion websites, digital social networks, as well as the impact of these phenomena on knowledge, attitudes, public opinion, and behavior. Innovative research methods are welcome. The applicant’s research and teaching interests should tie in with TU Dresden’s Research Priority Area “Culture and Societal Change”. The willingness and capability to teach in English and German language is expected. The duties include participation in academic self-administration.

Applicants must fulfil the employment qualification requirements of § 63 of the Act on the Autonomy of Institutions of Higher Education in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSFG).
