Professor (m/f/d) for Educational science with focus on Adult Education/Further Education W1 with a tenure-track-program to W3

The position is limited to six years. Following a positive tenure evaluation it will merge into a permanent full professorship (W3). This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.

The tenure track professorship will represent the field of „Educational science with focus on Adult Education/Further Education“ in both research and teaching.

The professorship will be involved within the undergraduate programs (BA/MA) as well as within the Master of Education at the Heidelberg School of Education. In research the professorship participates in research on teacher training within the heiEDUCATION-project (e.g. regarding newcomers to teaching positions coming from different educational backgrounds). Participation in Field of Focus 4: Self-Regulation and Regulation: Individuals and Organizations is requested.

The candidate should have extensive experience and expertise in at least two of the following fields of research: adult learning ((non)formal, informal), professionalization in Adult Education/Further Education, development within organizations in Adult Education/Further Education, newcomers to job positions (e.g. teaching) coming from different educational backgrounds as well as research on processes and impacts.

The formal requirements for the appointment to the W1 tenure track professorship comprise according to § 51 LHG completed university studies, a corresponding doctorate in Educational Science or a close discipline (Psychology, Educational Research), pedagogical aptitude which is generally proven by experience in teaching or school practice (§ 51 Abs. 2 Satz 2) and an excellent publication list. Experience in soliciting third-party funds is beneficial.

The position is meant to be a qualifying position. If there has been an employment as research staff member, the duration or the doctorate and the research staff membership should not exceed six years altogether. English-speaking applicants should be able to perform basic administrative tasks and to comment on student essays written in German.

The Tenure Track Professorship (salary grade W1) will initially be limited to six years and, following a positive tenure evaluation, will be converted to a permanent W3 professorship. Provided that the general legal (German civil service law) and budgetary regulations are fulfilled, it is intended that the employment will have civil service status.
