Professorship W 2 of Theoretical Physics with a focus on the Theory of Quantum-Dynamical Processes in Many-body Systems

The Department of Physics, Universität Regensburg, invites applications for a tenure-track

Professorship W 2 of Theoretical Physics
with a focus on the
Theory of Quantum-Dynamical Processes in Many-body Systems

to be appointed as soon as possible.

The appointment will initially be for a period of six years with the legal status of temporary civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis auf Zeit). The tenure-track professorship is supported by the joint state-federal program for the advancement of young scientists (“Tenure-Track Programm des Bundes und der Länder”). The professorship aims to forge transparent pathways for young academics so they can plan their advancement to a permanent professorship. For this reason, we explicitly encourage applications from junior academics who have only recently been awarded their doctorate. We are looking for a highly qualified scientist with an innovative scientific profile, outstanding scientific achievements and extraordinary potential for their further academic career. Universität Regensburg offers the prospect, upon positive tenure evaluation, of transferring to a permanent position as a W2-grade professor with the legal status of civil servant for life (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit). The requirements for the tenure evaluation can be found at https://go.uni-regensburg.de/tt-satzung.

The expertise of the person to be appointed (m / f / d) lies in the area of quantum dynamic processes in correlated many-particle systems. He / she should have profound methodological knowledge in this research field, e. g., in analytical theories of non-equilibrium phenomena or modern numerical simulation methods. An interest in cooperating with the interdisciplinary Regensburg Center for Ultrafast Nanoscopy (RUN), the DFG Collaborative Research Center 1277 on “Emergent relativistic phenomena in condensed matter”, and in future coordinated research programs of the department is expected. The candidate should be qualified to successfully lead a junior research group in condensed matter theory and to take on project management in collaborative research projects.

The successful candidate will take up teaching assignments spanning the breadth of theoretical physics, and will show willingness to take on administrative responsibilities within the department.

In accordance with Universität Regensburg's statute on the appointment of tenure-track professors from February 14, 2020, the prerequisites named in Art. 14 of the Bavarian University Staff Act (BayHSchPG) apply to this appointment. This means, above all, particular aptitude for academic work, generally demonstrated by a doctoral degree, and additional scholarly achievements commensurate with the early phase of the career, including pedagogical experience.

Applicants must have either moved between universities following their doctorate or have been academically active for at least two years somewhere other than Universität Regensburg prior to application.

Universität Regensburg is particularly committed to reconciling family and working life (for more information, see http://www.uni-regensburg.de/chancengleichheit). To fulfill the equality directive and increase the number of female professors, we explicitly encourage applications from qualified women.

Candidates with severe disabilities and essentially equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration.

The prerequisites for appointment under civil-servant law are based on the provisions of the Bavarian Public Service Code (BayBG) and the Bavarian University Staff Act (BayHSchPG). Applications containing the normal documents (resumé, certificates, list of publications, descriptions of possible research projects, record of third-party funding, description of teaching experience) should be submitted electronically and as a single document by 15.09.2021 to the Dean, Department of Physics, email: fakultaet.physik@physik.uni-regensburg.de.

In addition, candidates are asked to name three scientists (with full addresses) who would be willing to provide letters of support upon request.
