Professorship (W2) (6 years/tenure track)
of Digital Literary Studies

commencing as soon as possible.

The position holder is expected to develop and apply digital research approaches in the field of literary theory and literary history. A research focus in literary studies is required, a commitment to theory building and the ability to combine general methodological reflection with knowledge of the potentials of informatic and statistical methods and their application is desired. Research on current trends in literary production and reception under the changed conditions of technical organisation and availability of literature is appreciated. The professorship should provide decisive impulses for intensified cooperation both within literary studies and between literary studies and digital linguistics, computational philology and computer science. Participation in third-party funded projects of the faculty and involvement in planned applications is expected.

In teaching, participation in existing Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in literary studies and the further development of the Bachelor's degree programme in Digital Humanities with a focus on literary studies, as well as participation in the training of young academics, including in the Graduate School Language & Literature, are expected.

LMU Munich seeks to appoint a highly qualified junior academic to this professorship and, therefore, especially encourages early-career scholars to apply. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career.

The initial appointment will be for six years. After a minimum of three years, it can be converted into a permanent position pending a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance in research and teaching as well as his or her personal aptitude and if all legal conditions are met.

This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.

Under the terms of the “LMU Academic Career Program”, in exceptional cases and subject to outstanding performance in research and teaching, the position may be converted from a W2 into a W3 Full Professorship at a later date.
