Advances in DNA sequencing and editing have enabled unprecedented possibilities to study cellular systems including non-model organisms. This allows for the combination of methods and questions from evolutionary biology and cell biology to better understand the diversity and function of cellular traits. The Faculty of Biology invites applications for a W2 Tenure Track position that use quantitative -omics and/or imaging-based methods to study cellular systems relevant for human biology in a comparative evolutionary context. The establishment of internationally competitive extramurally funded research projects is expected. The Faculty of Biology is located in the Biozentrum of the High-Tech Campus Martinsried, together with other Life Sciences at LMU, the Max-Planck-Society and the Helmholtz-Zentrum München. Within the Faculty of Biology core facilities for High-Performance Computing, Genomics, Bioanalytics, Electron Microscopy and Light Microscopy, Proteomics and Metabolomics are available.
Teaching in the Bachelor and Master programmes at the Faculty of Biology is required.
LMU Munich seeks to appoint a highly qualified junior academic to this professorship and, therefore, especially encourages early-career scholars to apply. Prerequisites for this position are a university degree and a doctoral degree or a comparable specific qualification. With an excellent record in research and teaching to date, prospective candidates will have demonstrated the potential for an outstanding academic career.
The initial appointment will be for six years. After a minimum of three years, it can be converted into a permanent position pending a positive evaluation of the candidate’s performance in research and teaching as well as his or her personal aptitude and if all legal conditions are met.
This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.
Under the terms of the “LMU Academic Career Program”, in exceptional cases and subject to outstanding performance in research and teaching, the position may be converted from a W2 into a W3 Full Professorship at a later date.
