The Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences invites applications for the position of a

Tenure Track Professor (W1) of Social Stratification and Inequality

at the Institute of Education, Labor and Society to be filled in the winter semester 2020/2021. The professorship is funded by the joint program of German federal and state governments for the promotion of early career researchers. This is a grade W1-professorship for which recruitment payments can be offered.

The successful candidate has excellent theoretical and empirical knowledge of social stratification and the analysis of social inequality – both has been demonstrated in relevant national and international publications. She/he strengthens the profile of the Faculty in the field of digital transformation of society. Participation in the development of a research area of the institute, participation in the research area “Inequality and Economic Policy Analysis” of the Faculty as well as the acquisition of external research funds are expected. Excellent knowledge of quantitative empirical social research and statistical analysis is required. The teaching load will comprise four contact hours per week. The successful candidate should be able to offer courses in German and English in the Bachelor and Master programs of the Faculty; international applicants will be willing to learn German.

The position offers attractive conditions for tenure-track appointees. This professorship is particularly suitable for highly qualified early career researchers. The requirements for an appointment are a completed university degree, pedagogical suitability and a doctorate of outstanding quality.

If the requirements for civil service are met, the appointment will be a temporary civil service position for six years. After six years, the applicant may be appointed to a W3-position if the requirements described in the University’s quality assurance guidelines are met. The appointment to a W3-position may be done without any additional call for applications and through a simplified appointment process.
