Tenure Track Professorship (W1) „Robotic Construction“

Description

The professorship focuses on methods in control engineering and computer science to support robotic construction in civil engineering and architecture.

With a focus on structural engineering, corresponding research is expected to focus on developing approaches that contribute to the vision of a “cyber-physical building site” and robotic construction of the Cluster of Excellence EXC 2120 Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture. This includes development of new approaches for design and construction, systems, processes and control methods in the context of robotic construction as well as further development of computer-oriented methods for integration of various building processes. Embedded in the different research areas at Faculty 2: Civil and Environmental Engineering, the professor is expected to contribute to interdisciplinary research and teaching in the engineering sciences.

In teaching, the professorship supports the programs offered within Faculty 2, also in cooperation with other faculties, with corresponding courses.

Requirements

We are looking for a competent young researcher with sound knowledge in the areas of automation and construction, first experience in at least one of the aforementioned research areas as well as capability for interdisciplinary cooperation.


The professorship is funded in the context of the joint programme for the promotion of early career researchers by the German federal and state-governments. The position is a tenure track position leading to an appointment as a W3 professor in case of a positive evaluation. Ability, experience and readiness for independent acquisition of third party funding and direction of fundamental research projects are desired. Contribution to academic services as well as cooperation within EXC 2120 as well as the collaborative research centre SFB 1244 Adaptive skins and structures for the built environment of tomorrow are expected.
