According to § 64 ¶ 3 of the Higher Education Act of Hesse with a development commitment after a probationary period of 6 years to receive a permanent contract as a W 2 Professor.

The professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.

The University of Kassel is currently planning to establish an Academic Center to add to the university’s profile. Current problems will be scientifically analyzed and critically considered in relation to Sustainable Development Goals, and solutions to these problems will be developed in order to promote and research social transformation. The Center is meant to develop research and teaching skills over the entire thematic range of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are seeking a professor (W1 with tenure track to W2) to work with the Center in “Sustainable Product Design and Development."

The University of Kassel is an innovative, forward-looking, and international university in the middle of Germany, with a current student population of around 25,000. Since the university’s founding more than 50 years ago, concepts and models of sustainability have played a prominent role and have been researched in interdisciplinary cooperation. The professorship is associated with both the Center and the Kunsthochschule Kassel.

Teaching responsibilities span the Kunsthochschule’s study program in Product Design, other programs at the Kunsthochschule in consultation, and future study opportunities at the Center.

We are seeking a person whose academic work is focused on sustainable product designs and developments. Preference will be given to those with additional practical experience, which can be related, for instance, to the conception or design of sustainable product cycles, circuits, or systems. A successful candidate will have to be familiar with the discourses, material questions, and systematic connections of sustainable product design.

The position requires a doctoral degree in the pertinent area with an evaluation of at least “very good.” Very good skills in English are also required. Duties include participating in academic self-management.

The employment and performance requirements of §§ 67, 68 und 70 bzw. 70 3 of the Higher Education Act of Hesse apply.
