W1 Professorship in Taxation and Accounting (Tenure Track with possibility of advancement to W3)

W1 Professorship in Taxation and Accounting
(Tenure Track with possibility of advancement to W3)

The Professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German Federal Government and the Federal States (Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Na­chwuchses) and will be located within the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics, starting Winter Semester 2022/23.

The appointment as a W1 (junior) professor is initially on a fixed term of three to four years. A contract extension for up to a maximum of six years is contingent on a positive evaluation. The evaluation according to § 46 of the Brandenburg Law on Higher Education (BbgHG) takes place during the third or fourth year of the professorship. The actual timing of the evaluation and thus the duration of the initial contract will be fixed in an agreement prior to the appointment as profes-sor. A subsequent appointment to a tenured professorship at the W3 level is contingent on a final tenure evaluation, which will be initiated at least nine months prior to the termination of the W1 (junior) professorship. The Statute for the Evaluation of Junior Professors and Tenure Track Pro­fessors of the European University Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder) as of 15.07.2020 governs the proce-dure, and contains the criteria, which form the basis for recruitment.

The professorship is expected to strengthen education and research in the field of Taxation and Accounting with a particular focus on business taxation. The ideal candidate

  • has an outstanding PhD in business taxation or in accounting,
  • has the potential to publish research outcomes in leading international journals,
  • is able to teach university-level courses in taxation and accounting/auditing in German and in English
  • strives for excellence in teaching and for developing and using innovative teaching meth-ods,
  • seeks to develop and acquire third-party funded projects,
  • has the willingness to collaborate with tax or accounting professionals and to integrate professionals into teaching.

The candidate should further

  • be interested in interdisciplinary research collaborations,
  • ideally have an interest in research collaborations with a focus on Central and Eastern Europe,
  • ideally include aspects of gender and diversity in teaching and/or research.

The advertisement specifically addresses early career researchers in the first years after conferral of the doctorate. Candidates who already fulfil the requirements for a W2/W3 professorship ac-cording to § 41 (1) No. 4a BbgHG cannot be considered for this position.

Requirements  

Recruitment requirements result from § 45 BbgHG. Applicants who obtained their Doctorate from the European University Viadrina and/or are employed by the University are also referred to § 1 (4) of the Statute for the Evaluation of Junior Professors and Tenure Track Professors. The period of full-time (i.e. more than 50%) academic employment in university or in other research organi-zations should not exceed six years between the date of last examination for the doctorate and the date of this job application. Circumstances under which an extension of this period is possible are stipulated in § 45 (2) BbgHG. Each applicant shall complete the Supplementary Information Form regarding the relevant periods and permissible circumstances for extension of the total time allowed, and add it to the application documents.
