At the Institute of Social Sciences at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, a

W1 professorship(m/f/x) in Digital Social Science
(with tenure-track W2)

funded by the Bund-Länder-Program for the Promotion of Young Scientists is available as soon as possible. It is required that the position holder has a research focus in the social sciences and applies data-intensive and computational methods to study human behavior and social interaction. Applicants should be in their early career stage.

Teaching responsibilities include an introductory course in data-intensive and computational methods for social scientists and participation in developing a novel degree program that combines social sciences with computer science.

The prerequisite for the appointment is an outstanding doctorate in sociology, political science, or related social science. Publications in international peer-reviewed journals should evidence the applicants' scientific qualifications.

Experience in attracting external funding is expected, as is relevant teaching experience. In addition, the position holder is expected to participate in existing collaborative research projects between social sciences and computer science, and contribute to their further development.

As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.

Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). If candidates were employed as research associates or research assistants before or after obtaining their doctoral degree, the total period of doctoral studies and employment must not exceed six years.

Pending fulfilment of the applicable employment laws, the fixed-term contract granting temporary civil servant status will initially be limited to a period of three years and may be extended by a further three years, subject to a positive evaluation. At the end of this period, appointment to a tenured professorship at W2 level is intended in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions.

The University aims to increase its proportion of female professors and strongly encourages female scientists to apply. Therefore, equally qualified female candidates will be given preference. Applicants with disabilities will be preferentially considered in case of equal qualification. The position is suitable for part-time employment.

Please send applications (including curriculum vitae, copies of certificates and diplomas, as well as a list of courses, publications, and third-party funding for the last three years) by 8th September 2021, preferably in electronic form (PDF), to Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg, Attn: Dean of Faculty I, 26111 Oldenburg, dekanat.fk1@uni-oldenburg.de.
