W1 professorship (with tenure track to W3) in »Mechanics of Engineering Materials«

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an internationally established university with 160 years of history that is rooted in the Bauhaus tradition. It combines science, technology, art and design. This approach determines the self-image of the faculties of Architecture and Urbanism, Civil Engineering, Art and Design, and Media. In addition to their subject-specific functions, the faculties are also committed to interdisciplinary collaboration and to the interpenetration between art, science and practise.

As part of the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programme to promote young research talent, the Faculty Civil Engineering at Bauhaus-Universität is seeking to fill a

W1 professorship (with tenure track to W3) in  »Mechanics of Engineering Materials«

The research programme of the professor position is intended to investigate and develop new methods and approaches in experimental and numerical mechanics of engineering mechanics, especially to link experimental concepts with theoretical models and their numerical implementation. New hybdrid material concepts with specific focus on protection of climate, natural resources and energy, sustainability and data driven characterization of materials can be further research topics. Joint research proposals could target concepts for multifield material functionalization and their implementation into structural modelling concepts.

Course offerings are expected for the study programmes Civil Engineering (bachelor and master programme, german), Construction Materials (master programme, german), and in the two English language master programmes Natural Hazards and Risks in Structural Engineering and Digital Engineering.

Under this programme, the job advertisement is aimed at junior academics early on in their careers. The recruitment requirements of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (§ 89 ThürHG) apply.

The respective professorship is initially limited to three years. This is expected to be extended by a further three years, following a positive tenure evaluation. If a further evaluation after six years is also positive, then the W1 professorship will be converted into a W3 professorship without an additional job advertisement.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar offers you appropriate resources to enable you to independently structure your professorship, including scientific staff (100 % scientific assistent), equipment, and a share in secretarial capacity. The experimental equipment of the Finger-Institute and the high-performance cluster of the Institute for Structural Mechanics can be accessed. We also support you with the performance of your duties via a wide range of advisory services and promotional funding.

We are looking for an individual who pairs excellence in their discipline with an openness to other subject areas, and who will play a part in further developing and shaping the university with an awareness of art and science’s responsibility to society. They are therefore expected to participate in inter-faculty collaborations and interdisciplinary study courses.

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar pursues an equal-opportunity, family-friendly human resources policy. The university’s strategic goals include increasing the proportion of women in teaching and research. The university was awarded a »TOTAL E-QUALITY« rating, and was given the title of »Gleichstellung: Ausgezeichnet!« (»Gender Equality: Outstanding!«) under the Federal Government-Länder Women Professors Programme. Bauhaus-Universität Weimar would therefore like to expressly invite qualified female academics to submit applications.
