W1 Professorship (with W2 tenure track) in Data Driven Economy

 

The position is offered with the earliest possible starting date for a period of six years pursuant to § 64 Para. 3 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG). According to § 64 Para. 3 HHG, the applicant should have gained a doctoral degree at an institution of higher education other than Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) or have been in academic employment at an institution other than JLU for at least two years after conferral of a doctoral degree. The duration of said post-doctoral employment may not exceed four years or, in the case of successful completion of further academic training pursuant to § 62 Para. 6 HHG, may not exceed seven years. In the case of successful completion of the six-year W1 position, which is to be assessed in an evaluation procedure pursuant to § 64 Para. 2 HHG, the appointment will be converted into a permanent W2 professorship. Proficient knowledge of German language is expected.

Duties:

The Faculty of Economics and Business Studies seeks candidates that concentrate in their teaching and research on different aspects of the data driven economy and thus supports the development of the area ‘Data Driven Economy’. In particular, the professorship should focus on functions and challenges linked to the data made available through digitalization. The economic analysis of this data should include different levels from individuals and firms to politics and macroeconomy. Given the distinct profile of the University JLU in the life sciences, these contributions should include health-related applications. We expect the successful candidate to participate in our educational programs at the Bachelor, Master, and PhD levels, including participation in the Giessen Graduate Centre for Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Law (GGS). Applicants are requested to offer courses in economics, preferably in English and German. An active participation in the national and international profile development of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies is expected. During employment at JLU, the candidate should integrate gender aspects in research and teaching.

Furthermore, the successful raising of external funds during the qualification period at JLU is required.

Requirements:

We seek applicants from the field of economics with a very good doctorate and relevant publications or manuscripts in advanced revision rounds in high ranking international peer reviewed journals. First experiences in acquiring external funds are expected as well as an orientation towards theory based empirical quantitative research, strong methodological competencies. Health-related applications are expected.
