Kiel University has successfully applied for funding through the federal/state programme in support of early career researchers, and seeks to appoint more qualified women to professorships.

of the Faculty of Medicine at Kiel University, a position is available immediately for a

W2 Professor (for 6 years)
with Tenure Track for endoscopic imaging

The future occupant of this position is expected to represent the subject of gastroenterological endoscopy in research and teaching. In healthcare, he/she will be entrusted with the organisation of endoscopy, which is jointly operated by the Department of Internal Medicine I and the Department of General and Thoracic Surgery.

The successful candidate is expected to actively participate in the faculty’s priority research area "Digital Medicine - Identify, Understand, Heal". In addition, involvement in the Cluster of Excellence "Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation" is expected.

The candidate should have clinical competence in gastroenterological endoscopy, with completed specialist training in internal medicine (gastroenterology), and preferably also leadership experience, as well as broad clinical experience in endoscopic interventional techniques (possibly also with leadership experience in this area). Scientific expertise related to endoscopic imaging should be demonstrated on the basis of publications and corresponding activities. The professor for endoscopic imaging is responsible for the organisation of clinical endoscopy, as well as research endoscopy at the Centre for Systems Medicine (under construction).

The Department of Internal Medicine I provides broad healthcare in the field of gastroenterology and pneumology as well as other subjects. This leads to over 10,000 endoscopic examinations. Innovative interventional techniques are applied in the area of gastroenterological and pulmonary endoscopy. In addition, through the Cluster of Excellence "Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation", there is the opportunity to integrate projects which incorporate pathophysiology and new opportunities for intervention in the field of inflammatory diseases of the mucosa. In close cooperation with the Faculty of Engineering at the CAU and the medical technology focus area at the University of Lübeck, new endoscopic imaging technologies should be tested in clinical trials, and described in clinical studies.

On the setting requirements of § 61 of the Higher Education Act of Schleswig-Holstein is pointed. The professorship can be made permanent following successful evaluation on account of the Tenure Track option. To do so, Kiel University will carry out a corresponding evaluation procedure in accordance with the valid regulations, usually one year before the temporary professorship position expires.
