W2 Professor with W3 Tenure for ‘Public Law with a Specialisation in Planning and Environmental Law’

The Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (TUK) is a research university with a focus on engineering and natural sciences and an international profile. In the field of basic research, it is particularly active in seven collaborative research centres (CRCs) and transregio-CRCs. Important subject areas of application-oriented research are dealt with in close cooperation with the ten research institutes in the vicinity. The TUK is a campus university characterised by short distances and cooperative partnership among all its members.

In the framework of the Programme for the Promotion of Early Career Researchers by the German Federal and State Governments (WISNA) the position of tenure track professor

W2 Professor with W3 Tenure
for ‘Public Law with a Specialisation in Planning and Environmental Law’

at the TUK in the Department of Regional and Environmental Planning is to prospectively be filled by 01 November 2020.

With the help of the newly appointed tenure track professorship, the department aims to permanently entrench the future-oriented topics of energy, climate and environment as special focus areas in research and teaching. "Planning and Environmental Law" will be a future-oriented development of "Construction and Planning Law" and will further emphasise the increasing number of environmental law requirements in current planning processes. The decentralisation of energy production, distribution and storage will result in analytical, conceptual and creative tasks and problems in the degree programmes of the Department of Regional and Environmental Planning. This is an essential development for, e.g., spatial planning, urban planning as well as specialist planning.

Initially, applicants should assume responsibility for teaching and developing the current range of courses in the curriculum of the Bachelor's degree programme Spatial Planning and the Master's degree programmes Urban and Regional Development as well as Environmental Planning and Law. Applicants will also be expected to open these courses to students of other departments (e.g., Civil Engineering, Architecture, Electrical and Computer Engineering).

Aside from relevant scientific and academic qualifications in the area of public law, the applicant (PhD required) is expected to have additional academic achievements as well as didactic teaching skills and experience. Applicants must have a vested interest in innovative forms of teaching as well as in cooperation and collaboration with colleagues in other divisions of the Department of Regional and Environmental Planning, with other TUK departments and with regional non-university research institutes.

This tenure track professorship is funded by the WISNA programme. The programme’s target group are scientists at an early stage of their careers. The filling of the professorship requires eligibility according to WISNA.

The professorship shall initially be occupied as a W2 position in civil service for a period of six years. A mid-term evaluation shall be conducted in the third year; a tenure evaluation shall be conducted prior to completion of the period. Following the successful completion of this evaluation and, insofar as the general staff regulations are met, the appointment shall take place for the civil service post for life in the salary grade W3. The procedures are set forth in the TUK Statutes on Quality Assurance for Appointments.

The State of Rhineland-Palatinate and the TUK represent a support concept in which a high attendance of the professors at the university is expected.

Besides the general staff regulations, the appointment requirements stipulated in § 49 of the University Act of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate apply. These conditions can be accessed on the website of the Technische Universität Kaiserslautern (for details please see: http://www.uni-kl.de/intern/meine-tuk/hauptabteilung-1/rechtsvorschriften/)

The TUK strives to promote an increase in the representation of women in research and teaching, and thus emphatically invites qualified female academics to apply. Applicants with disabilities will receive preferential treatment in the event of equal suitability (please enclose evidence to the application). The TUK is a family-friendly university; it values the diversity of its members and enables equality of opportunity for all. Applications by scientists from abroad are particularly welcome.

By submitting your application, you are agreeing to further internal processing of your information for official purposes in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act of Rhineland-Palatinate.
