Owing to the successful application to the German federal-state programme for promoting early-career researchers (tenure-track programme), the Faculty of Social Sciences and Cultural Studies invites applications for a

W2 Professorship (with W3 tenure track) in Political Science
with a focus on Methods of Political Science in consideration of
democracy and political socialization research

provisionally limited to six years as of the earliest possible date. Reference is made to § 64 section 1 and 4 Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG) and to conditions of employment based on § 62 HHG. In case of eligibility, which will be evaluated according to § 64 section 2 HHG, a permanent W3 Professorship will be offered subsequently. Proficient knowledge of German is expected.

Duties:
Research is expected to focus on areas that combine qualitative and/or quantitative methods with a focus on democracy and political socialization and policy analysis.
A willingness to demonstrate successful independent acquisition of reviewed external funding up to the final evaluation of the professorship is required.
In addition, the willingness to cooperate actively with the Centres of the University such as the International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC), the Centre for Media and lnteractivity (ZMI), the Giessen Graduate Centre for Social Sciences, Business, Economics and Law (GGS), the Centre for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU) or the Giessen Centre for Eastern European Studies (GiZo) is expected. lt is also expected that the professorship will actively contribute to the networking related to methods in the social sciences and other disciplines at JLU. The willingness to participate in networked research and teaching initiatives in the department is desirable.
The professorship should actively participate in the relevant international cooperation of JLU and get actively involved in the further international profiling of the department with their own foreign connections.

You teach in all courses of study in which the Institute of Political Science is involved. These are the BA Social Sciences, the MA Democracy and Governance, Politics and Economics in the teacher education programmes L2 with L5 and L3 as well as the basic science Political Science in all teacher education programmes. The consideration of gender aspects in research and teaching is desirable.

Requirements:
An outstanding doctorate in a relevant subject area is expected, as weill as a relevant publication profile with internationally visible publications in relevant journals. Experience in independent external funding is also expected. Proven relevant didactic experience and concepts are required. The willingness and ability to teach in English is desirable.
