Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg

The Otto von Guericke University (OVGU) aims at a transformation of its support culture for the career paths of young scientists. Until now, tenure-track was not used as a basic tool of human resources development. The process of implementation of a tenure-track system has led to a profound discussion on human resources development for the complete academic staff at OVGU.

Various existing singular activities as well as measures are connected and shaped to form an overall concept. We aim to support the academic staff in a transparent, sustainable way.

OVGU sees it as an important strategic field of action to have the personnel and generate the financial means for the development of a comprehensive concept, to support implementation in the faculties with respect to the different research cultures.

Additionally, the tenure-track system offers the possibility to widen the current boundaries of faculties and budgets to reach more flexibility in the use of resources. The tenure-track funding programme offers stimuli to rethink the procedures of filling professorships and to find new paths for recruiting. The introduction of more flexible tools will also lead to better strategic planning of research activities and a clearer profile.

OVGU aims at fostering the new research area "Digital Transformation", to lay the foundation for a transdisciplinary cooperation that is also of great interest to the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
