The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Technische Universität Braunschweig invites applications for a

Junior Professor in “Fuel Cell Systems and Powertrains” (W1 with Tenure Track W2)

funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States (”WISNA”) to start as soon as possible.

The junior professor will be settled within the Automotive Research Center Niedersachsen (NFF) at the Institute of Internal Combustion Engines (ivb). The successful candidate should perform research in the following areas:

  • Fuel cell systems in the context of the vehicle and the powertrain
  • Fuel cell related apparatus technology
  • Investigation of the system in full or at least application oriented size
  • Experiments and simulation on fuel cell systems, fuel cell powertrains and their components

The professor shall lead a research group on fuel cell systems and powertrains. Further she or he shall take a major role in future collaborative research programs. An extension of the working field towards fuel cell applications in aviation in cooperation with the Aeronautics Research Center Niedersachsen (NFL) is possible. Responsibilities of the new professor include teaching of graduate students in courses on fuel cell systems

The successful candidate from university, research establishment or industry has proven expertise in electrochemical, dynamic or large scale energy systems, preferably related to fuel cells. Desirable are experiences in collaborative research programs. We expect good communication skills and goal-oriented work.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will provide office space, computing infrastructure, test bed and workshop resources for research and teaching.

Technische Universität Braunschweig is member of the Science Alliance Braunschweig-Hannover. The successful candidate is expected to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary programs and to support co-operations among the Institutes of Technology in the State of Lower Saxony as part of the master plan MOBILISE – Mobility in Engineering and Science.

The junior professor´s initial appointment is limited to three years. After a positive evaluation, the appointment will be extended by three more years. In accordance with the tenure track statues of TU Braunschweig, the appointment will be tenured at the level W2 after a positive final evaluation. The requirements of the position are defined in Section 30 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (Niedersächsisches Hochschulgesetz).
