This is a tenure-track junior professorship leading to a tenured W2 posi-tion. The position is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German federal and state governments. We are inviting applications for a junior professor position in the area of molecular structure of condensed matter involving big data, to be filled as soon as possible. The professorship is dedicated to the investigation of inorganic-molecular structural information by means of X-ray and neutron diffraction and develops concepts for the management of large data sets of the new type, especially with regard to atomistic-theoretical information and virtual instrumentation. The professor will also participate in the Cluster of Excellence FSC and in the RWTH profile areas MSE, CompSE and MatSE, in an interdisciplinary manner for “hard” and “soft” matter, with links to physics, biology, computer science and engineering. In teaching, he/she will be involved in general and inorganic chemistry. The development of a new course on chemistry-related data manage-ment is expected. Participation in academic self-administration is expected.

Candidates should have a university degree and a particular ability to undertake academic work, which is generally demonstrated by an outstanding doctorate. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
