The Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) is an interdisciplinary institute of the University of Oldenburg with facilities in Oldenburg and Wilhelmshaven. It is the only university institute in Lower Saxony that covers broad areas of marine science in both research and teaching. More than 20 working groups from various scientific disciplines - including biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and engineering sciences - belong to the institute. The ICBM operates the coastal observatory Spiekeroog and is home institute of the research vessel Sonne. Pending fulfilment of the applicable employment laws, the successful candidate will be employed as a temporary civil servant for a period of three years. A contract extension for a further three years is contingent on a positive evaluation of the initial three years. A subsequent appointment to a tenured professorship at W2 level at the end of this period is envisaged in accordance with the relevant statutory provisions.
We are looking for a marine scientist with strong competence in biogeochemical model-ling of globally relevant processes. The junior professor should develop ecological and biogeochemical models in cooperation with experimental and modelling working groups and implement them in global ocean circulation models. The transport and microbial turnover of climate-relevant substances in the world oceans in the context of past and future climate change should be the focus of research. The applicant is expected to develop interdisciplinary research initiatives at ICBM and to participate in joint research programs.
Recruitment requirements result from §30 NHG. These are a completed university degree, pedagogical-didactic aptitude and special ability for in-depth, independent scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by an outstanding quality of the doctorate. If, before or after the doctorate, the candidate was employed as a research scientist, the doctoral and employment phases should not have lasted more than six years together at the time of application. In addition, peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals and international research experience are required. Successful acquisition of research funds is desirable.
In order to increase the proportion of women, preference should be given to applicants with equivalent qualifications. Severely disabled persons will be given preference if they have the same qualifications. The position is suitable for part-time employment if re-quired.
