Junior Professorship (W1) in General and Instructional Psychology with a tenure track option for W3

The Faculty of Education at the University of Erfurt intends to appoint to the following Professorship at the earliest possible date:

Junior Professorship (W1) in General and Instructional Psychology
with a tenure track option for W3

This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Programme of the German Federal Government and the Federal States.

Responsibilities
The professorship represents the entire field of general psychology (i. e. psychology of cognition, motivation, and emotion) and instructional psychology in research and teaching. It focuses primarily on general psychology; it is expected that the subject areas covered in educational/instructional psychology are grounded in general psychology. The postholder will further be expected to contribute to research in the specialism Education. School. Behaviour of the University of Erfurt in the context of at least one of the university's centres for early-career researchers: Quality of Education; Competence in Language; Centre for Empirical Research in Economics and Behavioral Sciences (CEREB); Communication and Digital Media (COMDIGMED). The teaching duties of the professorship primarily involve courses in the fields of general psychology and of instructional psychology, for the psychological, educational and teacher-training degree programmes (Bachelor, Master) of the University of Erfurt.

Requirements
In addition to the general public service regulations, applicants must fulfil the requirements for appointment set forth in Section 89 Subsection 2 of the Thuringian Higher Education Act (Thür­inger Hochschulgesetz, ThürHG).

S/he will be required to demonstrate excellent proficiency in German (CEFR level C1) in order to carry out his or her teaching duties on the teacher training programmes.

The successful candidate will have:

  • a university degree, preferably in psychology,
  • a relevant doctorate completed with excellent results,
  • relevant, peer-reviewed publications in international journals,
  • a proven track record of research in the field of general psychology with a focus on learning and teaching; the research profile must include topics in cognitive psychology,
  • experience in applying for respectively procuring research funding,
  • experience in teaching general psychology and/or instructional psychology in a higher-education context.

The appointment as civil servant is initially made with limited tenure. After a successful interim evaluation an extension will be provided (Section 89.6 Sentence 2 ThürHG). The appointment to a W3 professorship in a civil service position with unlimited tenure or a permanent employment contract is planned after a successful final evaluation within the framework of the appointment and career concept of the University of Erfurt ("Erfurt Career Track") in accordance with Section 85.1 Sentence 4 № 4 ThürHG. Please note Section 89.3 ThürHG. Insofar as employment as research assistant or in a comparable employment contract took place in a German university or research institution before or in pursuit of the doctoral degree, the total length of time spent working on a doctoral thesis and as a research assistant (or comparable) should not exceed six years before her/his appointment as junior professor. An exception is made in cases where an employment period was extended for parental leave, the applicant worked on a part-time basis due to childcare duties, or in particular cases that are specifically justified and properly documented.
