This professorship is funded by the “Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses”, a tenure track programme by the German Federal Government in cooperation with the Federal States of Germany.

With this professorship, the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics intends to strengthen and advance both research and teaching in its “Sustainability Management” competence area. We are seeking to appoint an excellent scientist in an early stage of her*his career focusing on sustainability in a business context from a quantitative or qualitative research perspective. We expect a record of research and publication activities in the relevant field, first experiences in the acquisition of and participation in research projects, and an international orientation. We further assume that candidates are willing to cooperate across disciplines in their research, to initiate and maintain science-practice networks, to acquire third-party funding, and to participate in third-mission activities.

With regard to teaching, we expect candidates to contribute in particular to our Master program “Sustainability Management” with mandatory and elective courses. The courses offered should also be suited as supplementary classes for students in Schumpeter School’s other Master programs and for the Master programs in Industrial Engineering offered in cooperation with the university’s engineering faculties. We expect an openness for modern teaching methods and the ability to teach in both German and English. Moreover, candidates are expected to take part in the process of academic self-administration.

Requirements:

  • A university degree in Business and Economics or in an adjacent subject with strong references to economic concepts;
  • An exceptional aptitude for scientific work, typically demonstrated by the quality of a respective doctorate;
  • A suitability for teaching, which is proven by appropriate prior experience or, exceptionally, is demonstrated during the appointment procedure.

During the period of the junior professorship we expect the candidate to acquire further outstanding academic achievements and to excel in teaching. The University’s human resources department supports the successful candidate’s professional and personal development, including career counseling, acquisition of research funds, teaching excellence and personnel management.

The University considers gender equality as an important task, and the successful candidate will contribute to its implementation.

Tenure Track:
As a rule, junior professors are appointed as temporary civil servants for a period of three years. Their position is extended for a further three years if they have proven themselves in an interim evaluation. Consequent to a positive tenure evaluation in the sixth year, the junior professor will be tenured as an associate professor (W2, permanent position). Both evaluation procedures are based on a target agreement which is part of the appointment negotiations. The target agreement as well as a confirmation of the resources available to the professorship are an integral part of the appointment agreement between university and candidate.
