Tenure Track Professorship (W1) in Model-Driven Engineering for Manufacturing Automation

The intention of this professorship will be to augment the research field of software-defined manufacturing, which is aimed at increasing productivity by using model-driven engineering (MDE) to optimize the compatibility and the continuity between design methods and design systems as well as to link the fields of product development and production. For that purpose, new, reusable and standardized models and design prototypes will have to be investigated and developed. It is intended to use these models for an increased automation of design and modification processes in product development and production.

The successful candidate will have an internationally recognized reputation for excellence in the research of MDE and its applications and will have experience in several of the following areas of teaching and research:

  •  methods, techniques and tools for MDE
  • theoretical aspects of MDE
  • secure and scalable platforms for MDE
  • applications of dedicated MDE software technologies in the field of product development and
  • standards and description languages for MDE and possibly model-based system engineering (e.g. SysML)

The post holder’s main responsibilities will include the contribution to the teaching in the study programs of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics in German or in English. Lectures offered for study programs of other faculties will be desirable. Applications are welcome from suitably experienced individuals with an established reputation in several of these focal subjects. If possible, they should have several years of management experience in industry and/or research as well as in the contribution and the conduction of innovative research and development projects. The candidate appointed will be expected to extensively represent the above-mentioned areas in research and teaching with scientific methods and internationally recognized excellence.

The post holder is expected to intensively collaborate with other colleagues across the faculty and the university as well as within the academic self-administration.
