Tenure Track Professorship (W1 Tenure Track to W2) in Media Studies with a focus on Transcultural Media Cultures with a special emphasis on the MENA region

to be filled at the earliest possible date. This professorship is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German Federal Government and the Federal States and is initially limited to six years.

The professorship will focus on transcultural media cultures, with a special emphasis on the MENA region in research and teaching. The professorship is affiliated with the Institute for Media Studies and the CNMS. Teaching as well as research of the professorship will take place in both contexts. We are looking for a researcher (m/f/d) who will strengthen the research focus of both the Department of Media Studies and the CNMS and contribute to the interdis-ciplinary study programs in both teaching units.

This call is explicitly aimed at researchers in the early stages of their scientific careers. The duration of the employ-ment in research and science after obtaining the doctoral degree should not exceed four years. In addition, applicants should not have received their doctorate at the University of Marburg. In case the doctoral degree was obtained at the University of Marburg, the applicant should have worked in research and science outside of the University of Mar-burg for at least two years thereafter (in accordance with § 64 Abs. 3 Hessisches Hochschulgesetz HHG, the State of Hessen Higher Education Act).

We are looking for a highly qualified, internationally visible scientist with initial outstanding scientific achievements and an independent scientific profile that demonstrates the potential for a further successful career in science at the highest international level.

A completed university degree (Diploma, Master or comparable) in a culture-related program and an outstanding doc-torate on a topic within media (cultural) studies are required. Further qualifications are a media studies research focus on the MENA region, as evidenced by the dissertation or further publications, very good active language skills in one of the main languages of the CNMS (Arabic, Persian, Turkish), a broad knowledge of media studies in teaching, experience in/ability to teach in German and/or English, and as well as a special pedagogical aptitude. Non-native speakers of German are expected to acquire the German language within two years. Applicants should show an inter-est in media theory and media studies methodology. A research focus on contemporary media cultures as well as ex-perience in acquiring third-party funding will be considered an asset.

The employment requirements of §§ 61, 62 and especially 64 HHG apply. The Tenure Track professorship is initially a grade W1 fixed term (6 years) position. If the requirements under general German civil service law are met, the ap-plicant shall be granted a temporary civil service status for a period of six years. In the event of a positive evaluation of the professional, didactic and personal aptitude, the applicant will be granted a civil service status for life, com-bined with the assignment of a W2 permanent professorship.
