Tasks:
The new professorship is intended to expand the possibilities of using locally, highly resolved material and structural information for the description of materials and their behaviour. The holder of the position should bring together different methodical-statistical approaches and combine them with material technological applications. Both mathematical theoretical and experimental approaches are possible. Basic experimental equipment is available at the Institute of Materials Engineering. If necessary, this can be expanded in cooperation with other professorships at the Institute of Materials Engineering in the course of large-scale equipment applications.

The applicant is expected to contribute to research and teaching at national and international levels. The successful candidate will offer courses on material science topics in the Bachelor/Master programmes of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. In addition, he or she should be willing to become involved in the self-administration of the faculty.

Very important is the willingness to engage in the further development of internationalization as well as in the strengthening of existing and the establishment of new research collaborations. In particular, a close cooperation is expected between the position holder and the W1 - Professorship “Extreme light for material structures” (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering), the W1- Professorship “Theoretical Nanochemistry / Computational Nanochemistry” (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences) and the W2 - Professorship “Mechanical Behaviour of Materials" (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering).

Requirements:
Applicants must have a PhD (with a grade of “very good” or better) and provide evidence of in-depth experiences in the field of structure analysis in materials technology. This should be proven by an adequate number of peer-reviewed publications, preferably in high-ranking journals, and successful participation in research projects. First experiences in the independent acquisition of third-party funds are desired. Previous activities should demonstrate the capability for interdisciplinary cooperation and didactic-methodical competences.

The employment and performance requirements apply pursuant to §§ 61, 64 (3) of the Higher Education Act of Hessen (“Qualifikationsprofessur mit Entwicklungszusage”). The fixed-term position is limited to a period of six years in accordance with §64(3) of the Higher Education Act of Hessen (“Qualifikationsprofessur mit Entwicklungszusage”). Upon positive tenure evaluation, a permanent W2 professorship will be conferred. This tenure-track professorship is funded by the Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Program.
